Introduction
Drop the Dice LLC ("we", "us", "our") operates the NexTurn mobile application, the NexTurn website at nexturn.app (including NexTurn Playtesting), and NexTurn hardware devices. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our services.
By using NexTurn, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.
Core Belief
No advertising or marketing money is worth compromising our personal data. We believe in the power of harnessing our data to gain deeper insights into where we spend our time and that our hobbies have the power to improve our lives and strengthen our connections. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising or marketing — no data brokers, no ad networks, no "partners." The only third parties that handle your data are the service providers named in this policy (our cloud host, crash-reporting service, and the like), and they process it only on our instructions to run NexTurn.
If you ever see an ad here it's because somebody was wise enough to know this is a space that will grow with our community, and they paid to put up a sign, not because they know you or I are here.
Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
Account Information
- Email address (for account creation and authentication)
- Display name / username
- Authentication credentials (managed securely through AWS Cognito)
- You can sign in with a one-time email code, with Sign in with Apple, or with Google. If you use Sign in with Apple's private email relay, we only ever receive the relay address Apple provides, not your real email.
Game Session Data
- Game names, player names, turn times, and session statistics
- Color palettes and game preferences
NexTurn Playtesting
- NexTurn Playtesting lets game designers run private tests of their games and lets testers submit plays and feedback. If you join a playtest as a tester, the display name or username you use, the game sessions you record for that project, and any feedback you submit are shared with that project's designer and their team — sharing this data with the designer is the purpose of the feature. If a designer looks you up and you have not set a playtest display name, they may see the NexTurn username or the email address on your account.
- If you run a playtest as a designer, you receive the sessions and feedback your testers submit, and you can view and export them within the project.
- Playtest sessions and feedback are kept separate from your personal game history and are never included in the app's community or global statistics.
- The Designer and Studio plans are paid subscriptions billed through Stripe; see Purchase Information below.
Device Information
- Push notification tokens (for friend and game notifications)
- Device identifiers (for NexTurn hardware pairing only)
Crash & Diagnostic Data
- If the app crashes or encounters an error, a crash report is sent to Sentry, our crash-reporting service. Reports include technical details such as device model, operating system version, app version, and the state of the app at the time of the error (stack traces).
- Crash data is used solely to diagnose and fix bugs. It is not used for advertising or profiling.
App Usage Analytics
- The app records first-party usage events — such as opening the app, starting or finishing a game, joining a friend's game, viewing the upgrade screen, and completing a purchase — along with the app version, platform, and a pseudonymous identifier (your account ID once signed in, or a random per-install device ID before that).
- This data is collected and stored entirely in our own AWS account. We do not share or sell it, it contains no advertising identifiers, and it is not used to track you across other apps or websites.
- We use it to understand which features are used, improve the app, and measure how well the free tier and upgrade flow work. Raw events are automatically deleted after 24 months; longer-lived statistics are aggregate counts that contain no identifiers.
- Deleting your account resets the install's device identifier, and remaining raw events expire on the schedule above.
Purchase Information
- In-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see or store your payment card details.
- We receive and store the store's transaction identifier and the product purchased, solely to activate and manage your unlock across your devices.
- Purchases made on our website — currently the NexTurn Playtesting subscriptions and Pro licenses — are processed by Stripe, our payment processor. Stripe collects and handles your payment card details directly; we never see or store them. From Stripe we receive and store the customer and subscription identifiers, the plan or license you bought, its renewal or expiry date, and the billing email address, solely to activate and manage your subscription or unlock. See Stripe's privacy policy for how they handle payment data.
Website Contact Form
- If you send us a message through the contact form at nexturn.app/contact, we store the message, the topic you selected, and (if you provide one) your email address so we can reply.
- We also record the IP address and browser user-agent the message was sent from. We use these only to investigate spam or abuse.
- The contact form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile to block automated spam. Turnstile may process technical information about your browser and connection; see Cloudflare's privacy policy for details.
Mailing List
- If you sign up for updates on nexturn.app, we store your email address and the date you subscribed. We use it only to send NexTurn news, such as launch announcements. If you register interest from outside the United States, we also store the country you enter, so we can gauge international demand.
- We also record the IP address and browser user-agent the signup came from, as proof of consent and to investigate spam or abuse — the same as the contact form.
- The signup form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile to block automated spam, the same way as the contact form described above.
- You can unsubscribe at any time at nexturn.app/unsubscribe or via the link in any email we send. Unsubscribing deletes your address from the list.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain the NexTurn app and device functionality
- Sync game sessions across your devices
- Enable social features (friends, pending plays, shared game notifications)
- Display global game statistics and leaderboards
- Diagnose crashes and fix bugs
- Improve our services based on aggregated, anonymized usage patterns
Third-Party Integrations
NexTurn integrates with BoardGameGeek (BGG) at your request. When you connect your BGG account and choose to log a play, session data (game name, date, player names, scores, location) is sent to BGG on your behalf. Your BGG username and password are stored only on your device, in the device's secure storage — never on our servers — and are transmitted only to BoardGameGeek.
We use Sentry for crash reporting, as described under Crash & Diagnostic Data above. See Sentry's privacy policy for how they handle that data. In-app purchases are processed by Apple or Google, and website purchases and playtesting subscriptions by Stripe, under their own privacy policies.
Our website's contact and mailing-list signup forms use Cloudflare Turnstile for bot protection, as described above. Beyond the service providers named in this policy (AWS, Cloudflare, Sentry, Stripe, and Apple/Google for purchases), we do not sell or share your personal data with any third party, except in the limited circumstances described under "When We May Disclose Information" below.
When We May Disclose Information
In limited circumstances, we may disclose personal information outside the ordinary operation of the Service:
- If required by law, subpoena, or other valid legal process, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with a legal obligation.
- To protect the rights, property, or safety of NexTurn, our users, or the public — for example, investigating fraud or abuse.
- If Drop the Dice LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. Any successor will remain bound by this Privacy Policy, and we will notify you (for example, in the app or by email) before a materially different policy applies to your data.
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely using Amazon Web Services (AWS), including DynamoDB for session data and Cognito for authentication. All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
NexTurn hardware devices do not collect or store personal data. They receive lighting commands (color, pattern) over a local wireless connection, and may transmit device identifiers (such as a serial number) to the app solely for pairing and feature activation.
Data Retention & Deletion
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data yourself, at any time, directly in the app: Settings → your account → Delete Account. Deletion takes effect immediately and is permanent — it removes your sign-in, synced sessions, friends, and other account data from our live systems. Residual copies (such as crash reports, server logs, and backups) are deleted on a rolling schedule, analytics events expire as described above, and we may retain specific records where the law requires it.
You may also request deletion by contacting us at contact@nexturn.app; we will complete emailed requests within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
Children's Privacy
NexTurn is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at contact@nexturn.app and we will promptly delete it.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Delete your account and data yourself, in the app (Settings → Delete Account)
- Opt out of push notifications at any time through your device settings
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of NexTurn after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
